Whatever Your Needs... Jacobson Works to Provide a Solution

Jacobson Warehouse Company provides public, contract and dedicated warehousing for food commodities, chemical and hazardous materials, and general commodities. Jacobson has learned that the keys to success in our service industry are "quality" people and "quality" systems. Please refer to our case studies:

Plant Warehouse Solutions For Food Distribution

A major European food products company opened its first U.S. plant in Ames, Iowa, in 1998, and hired Jacobson Warehouse Company to manage its national distribution center which is adjacent to the plant. Jacobson provides both management and labor for this three-shift, six-day-a-week operation. The 180,000-square-foot facility utilizes high-density, drive-in racking. Product is received from the production palletizer and is received into Jacobson's Visual DCMS warehouse management system using bar-code scanning. Inventory is updated in real time, providing a perpetual replenishment. The customer's production and inventory control system is updated via EDI. Jacobson ships direct to customers on a regional level, saving the client transportation costs by combining smaller orders into truckload shipments. Jacobson has received Superior AIB ratings over the years of operating in Ames, Iowa. In 2007, Jacobson's relationship with this customer expanded and has brought us to Avon, New York; where Jacobson operates a 156,000 sq. ft. food grade distribution center.

A Partnership For Handling "Just In Time" Parts

Jacobson Warehouse Company entered into a partnership with a Fortune 500 manufacturer of commercial, agricultural, and construction equipment. Jacobson handles the complete outsourcing of an Iowa facility's purchased parts. By working as a team, Jacobson designed the layout of the 120,000 square foot warehouse to achieve maximum utilization of space, as well as, logical pick sequences. Jacobson worked to design and implement various "bundling" and "kitting" of parts to be expedited to their customers, along with "trigger" inventories delivered on returnable carts.

In 1994, Jacobson received the honor of "Preferred Supplier" to this company making us the first "service" based company to be recognized with such an award. After continued success with our first venture, Jacobson was awarded a contract to build a 420,000 square foot logistics center for the same manufacturing facility. Through "e-coating" and "JIT" sequencing of parts to the plant, the facility has achieved higher inventory turns and a streamlined production flow.

Public And Chemical Warehousing

Jacobson Warehouse operates a dedicated network of three Hazmat RDC's for a major worldwide chemical company out of New Jersey.

In Edison, New Jersey, Jacobson proposed a solution for the management and labor of a dedicated material distribution center to handle large volumes of import/export products in an operating agreement that included cost modeling and continuous improvement. Jacobson operates a fully racked 253,000 square foot facility that is fully bar coded.

In Palmyra, Missouri, Jacobson operates a second dedicated plant warehouse for their chemical customer. The 230,000 square foot chemical facility was specially designed for hazardous material storage and handles raw material, work-in-progress, returnable goods, damaged product and returnable containers.

Jacobson began operations of their third dedicated hazardous materials distribution center in Detroit, Michigan. This operation is fully racked with 30 percent being double deep racking. It is also fully bar-coded, utilizing 230,000 square feet. A total of 30,000 square feet of the facility is Hazmat. Jacobson provides 24/7 service to meet the high demand of the production plant and complete logistics requirements. Value added services include pulling samples, specialized picking, bulk truck vacuuming, late orders and specialized labeling. Jacobson also works closely with the transportation requirements, providing plant shuttle operations, building loads for LTL carriers, observing strict cut-off times, performing advance picking and product preparation to ensure timely delivery.

The Right Prescription For Animal Health Distribution

Jacobson operates as a third-party facility operator for this dedicated warehouse network. The facilities in Memphis, Tennessee and Des Moines, Iowa distribute for the world's leading animal health care company producing a wide range of pharmaceuticals and vaccines for both, "companion" and "production" animals. In this operation, Jacobson handles hazardous and flammable materials, temperature controlled products, and high value products. These products are each picked, packed and placed on conveyor systems. The packages are shipped via UPS or FedEx via an integrated system with Jacobson's Warehouse Management System. Jacobson has also installed their RF WMS at both distribution centers.

Both Jacobson and their partner have established a close working relationship while analyzing and determining the optimal location for each of the distribution centers.

Des Moines, Iowa: The first distribution center to go on-line, starting September 1, 2001. Jacobson retrofitted 35,000 square feet of space within one of our current chemical warehouses. This facility has 10,000 square feet of cooler space to store and ship biological orders.

Memphis, Tennessee: Jacobson retrofitted a 102,000 square feet facility that opened on December 3, 2001. This showcase warehouse handles both companion and production animal shipments.

According to this company, they believe Jacobson has shown the flexibility they were looking for in a partner. Jacobson ramped up their operations on short notice to meet their partners' needs.

Integrated Solutions For High Value Commodities

Jacobson operates two of the largest warehouses for one of the world's leading consumer products company. In Nashville, Tennessee, Jacobson operates a 90,000 square foot dedicated distribution center, that was started up in June 2001. Jacobson provides integrated solutions for transportation, warehousing and tracking. This facility is a six day, two shift operation which services a eight state geography. Jacobson manages both inbound and outbound transportation. The outbound deliveries are made with 20 dedicated power units.

The startup of this operation was in June, 1999 where Jacobson again provides an integrated solution for transportation, warehousing and tracking services. This facility is a six day, two shift operation which services a six state geography.

Long Term Success With New Construction And Retrofitted Facilities

This relationship began in 1972, when the company stored product in Jacobson's Broadway Street Warehouse in Des Moines, Iowa. In 1983, Jacobson retrofitted the 1500 Delaware facility in order to accommodate the growth in hazardous material storage. In 1988, the companies partnered up on the retrofit of a 15,000 square foot warehouse in Brawley, California to help properly store hazardous chemicals in southern California.

In 1992, Jacobson and their partner entered into a 15-year agreement on the new construction of a 150,000 square foot hazardous material facility in Rockford, Illinois. The facility has since been expanded by 90,000 square feet for a total of 240,000 square feet. Jacobson also worked closely with their partner to help improve and retrofit several of its company owned facilities like Miami and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1996, Jacobson built a new 260,000 state-of-the-art chemical warehousing facility in Indianapolis where their partner is a customer today.

Today, this partnership has lead to being leaders on the Distribution and Environmental Committee of the Mid America Corp Protection Association. The companies have worked together to provide input to the SAC (Safe Storage of Agricultural Chemicals) Survey that is used as the industry standard today.
