Beverage Multi-Packing with Pre-Printed
Shrink-Wrap; Custom Pallet Builds; Distribution Services:
The
relationship with a leading sports drink company began with
157,000 square feet in Tolleson, AZ in 1999. Jacobson established
and managed a distribution center while providing packaging
services that included the assembly of club store multi-packs
and display pallet builds. This operation is ongoing.
Working as a team to start up a packaging
and distribution facility in Tracy, CA, Jacobson secured
a 508,000 square foot space in Tracy, CA that would meet
the company's needs for both packaging and distribution
operations.
After securing space, Jacobson designed the
needed packaging line, financed and purchased equipment,
and hired and trained personnel to run a 7 day, 3 shift
operation. Jacobson Packaging and Jacobson Warehouse are
able to compliment each other in this operation by combining
packaging with storage and distribution.
The operation services now flexes up to 800,000
square feet to accommodate a seasonal business during peak
months.
Full Service Bagging and Packaging; Custom
Pallet Builds:
Jacobson
was awarded the opportunity to work with a leading snack
foods manufacturer on a large scale club store project for
its popular beef jerky snacks. Jacobson was able to provide
turn-key service by working with existing vendors to develop
and purchase the printed bags used for the multi-pack. In
addition, Jacobson sources many of the other components
necessary to complete the final pallet display.
As part of this project, Jacobson:

Created USDA certified space specific
to the project and now houses a USDA inspector.

Added additional capacity with new bagging
equipment and designed the production line for optimum
production output.

Staffs and manages a two-shift, 5 day
operation.

Provides daily custom reporting to address
inventory and production information - inventory management
on a daily basis. Provides additional services including
storage and shuttle service to and from the customer's
in-house distribution facilities.
Food Packaging
In
September, 2000, Jacobson Packaging Company was awarded
the contract to handle all secondary packaging, display
building and promotional packaging for an exciting new food
product from a leading Fortune 500 company. Jacobson was
awarded the contract based on its proven ability to provide
full-service, turn-key solutions to meet the client's supply
chain requirements with an integrated packaging and warehousing
solution. Newly designed packaging required unique labeling
technology, temperature-controlled storage and other packaging
expertise. Packaging services included:
As part of this project, Jacobson operated 230,000
square feet of dedicated warehouse and packaging space divided
between two locations and provided dedicated shuttle services
and outbound transportation. Services were provided by both
full time employees and temporary labor provided by Jacobson
Staffing Company. Jacobson continues to provide custom packaging
services for many of this customer's special projects and
promotions.

Jacobson
Packaging manages a variety of packaging projects for a
leading spice and seasoning company in the Midwest. Projects
include a year-round hand pack operation for delicate spices
such as bay leaves and cinnamon sticks. Jacobson employs
up to 100 employees at various times to offer the following

This operation is Kosher and Passover certified and is
also approved by the FDA and AIB.
Custom Pallet Builds and Distribution
Services
Iowa
is the home of the U.S.'s largest pasta manufacturer. Jacobson
was awarded this project, which includes a 180,000 square
foot national distribution center attached to the plant. Jacobson
provides the management and labor for a three shift, six days
per week operation.
Jacobson Packaging provides full service packaging assistance
that includes package design and materials sourcing. Jacobson
has provided the expertise and labor needed for the design
and assembly of a variety of ongoing projects:
- various multi-pack shrink-wraps of pastas and sauces
- custom pallet display builds
- customized mixed pallet loads
Other services includes real-time EDI technology, logistics
and transportation assistance, a pallet exchange program and
an off-site return goods warehouse.
Package Design Assistance, Custom Automated
Spice Filling and Promotional Packaging for Housewares
Jacobson joined forces with a marketer of high-end
soft handled kitchen tools when they entered the spice market
in 2000. These unique seasoning products were made available
in stores such as Crate and Barrel, Williams-Sonoma, and Bed,
Bath, and Beyond.
Jacobson Packaging financed the purchase of customized filling
equipment for an unique package design that included a built-in
grinder for each spice container.
Packaging Services included:
- Custom filling of over 900,000 spice grinders per year
- Construction of custom display design for kitchen tool
lines
- Multi-packs and other value-added packaging configurations
- Direct store delivery operations as needed
INDUSTRIAL ASSEMBLY-
CONSUMER GOODS
Industrial Assembly; Full Service Parts Consignment;
Distribution Services
When a leading tire and rubber company was looking for a
third party provider to assist in the growth of their retail
value-added product lines, Jacobson was the perfect fit. Within
four weeks of final discussions, Jacobson began operating
a full service assembly operation assembling garden hoses
for the lawn and garden retail market.
Jacobson financed the purchase of the required coiling,
coupling and crimping equipment for eight assembly lines,
coordinated installation and implemented the necessary site
requirements, all within a 4-week window. As part of this
full-service operation, Jacobson now sources and purchases
all components, manages inventory and staffs and trains a
3-shift operation to keep up with client demand. Productivity
goals were achieved and surpassed within three weeks of start-up.
As part of the Process Control Plan developed by Jacobson
for its customer, we ensure quality of the hose, coiling and
components and have implemented enhanced quality and safety
measures for our employees.
In addition, Jacobson manages the distribution aspect of
the project, which includes staging orders for individual
stores, consolidating those orders by distribution center
and arranging for shipment. SAP technology keeps information
flowing between Jacobson and the client all day, every day.
Since the inception of this initial project, Jacobson has
assumed the management of a three shift operation near the
hose plant, supporting their manufacturing operation with
custom hose assemblies for a variety of markets. Jacobson
adjusts its staff to meet client demand-operating with as
many as 180 employees during peak months. From conception
to distribution, Jacobson offers expertise in every area.
Full-Service Consignment, Packaging and Distribution
Jacobson
has partnered with a nationwide supplier of storage rental
facilities and packaging materials sold at retail. Jacobson
serves as distributor, packager and fulfillment center for
a portion of the packaging supplies marketed by this entity.
This is a full service operation based in Des Moines that
services 1500 locations across the nation.
As part of this project, Jacobson:
- Purchases packaging materials and provides them to the
customer on a consignment basis.
- Manages the purchasing, packaging, order processing, and
fulfillment aspects of the business.
- Integrated our computer networks and streamlined order
process and invoicing so that flat files can be received
directly through the client's network, thus eliminating
EDI fees and other costs related to order placement and
processing.
- Reduced packaging costs with new ideas and strategic vendor
partnering.
- Assisted with packaging design and case optimization.
Jacobson was able to achieve cost savings by
suggesting and implementing new packaging ideas and by partnering
with manufacturers to eliminate additional supply chain costs
on packing materials.
Global Fulfillment and Customized Packaging Services
Jacobson Packaging has operated a full-service consignment
and global fulfillment operation for one of the world's
best known and highly regarded appliance manufacturers
since 2000. Jacobson purchases and maintains an inventory
in excess of $2,000,000 of product literature and promotional
items. In addition, Jacobson inventories another $2,000,000
in high-end small electrics and distributes them directly
to consumers around the world.

In
2000, Jacobson Packaging began its alliance with a leading
provider of private label personal care products for national
retail store chains. Specific and unique equipment, special
liquid fillers, and high tech film work had to be acquired
to set the program in motion.
All equipment and packaging materials were
purchased and managed by Jacobson personnel, providing a
complete, turn-key service.
Jacobson has been honored to receive this
company's Vendor of the Year Award for outstanding service
and attention to cost reducing details and improved turn-around
time.
